Britten-Pears Foundation Online Catalogues
Online Library Catalogue
The Britten-Pears Foundation (now Britten Pears Arts) promote the music of Benjamin Britten and his work with singer Peter Pears and are based in Aldeburgh, Suffolk. They maintain comprehensive collections of related library catalogue data (e.g. Books, Music etc) and wanted to make some catalogues available online, a project which I was fortunate to have the opportunity to pitch for and win.
The finished Library Catalogue application was delivered on time and on budget and includes the following key features and technical challenges:
- Analysis and import of MARC formatted XML documents into a structured, MySQL database format
- Comprehensive and flexible search options
- Fully responsive to work well across a wide range of devices and screen sizes
- Display a large range of different types of catalogue records in a consistent and readable way
Online Integrated Catalogue
Building upon the Library Catalogue application, the Britten-Pears Foundation Online Integrated Catalogue provides a single solution for searching and administration of multiple catalogues online and adds a multitude of new features and functions, detailed below:
- Import and integration of additional, complex data sets from a variety of sources (e.g. XML, Excel etc).
- Data administration functionality (to add and edit individual records, import records in bulk etc).
- Integration of multimedia assets per record (images, files, audio and video).
- Administrative features including role and permissions based logins, saved searches for instant recall and XML data export.
- SEO features including permalinks, site map creation and dynamically generated meta tags.
